Description: According to Christian tradition, the Church of the Ascension marks the place of Christ ascension to heaven 40 days after he was resurrected. The place is also sacred to Muslims and is held by them.

שם: כנסיית העלייה - מסגד העלייה
תיאור: כנסיית העליה מציינת על פי המסורת הנוצרית את מקום עלייתו של ישו לשמיים 40 יום לאחר שקם לתחייה. המקום מקודש גם למוסלמים ומוחזק על ידם. הכנסייה ממוקמת במרומי הר הזיתים. בתמונה - הסלע עם טביעת כף רגלו של ישו
הערות: הכנסייה הנוכחית נבנתה בתקופה הצלבנית בצורת מתומן לאחר שנבנתה ונהרסה החל מהמאה ה-4 לספירה. הכנסייה היתה עם קשתות פתוחות מסביב ופתוחה לשמיים. לאחר כיבוש ירושלים על ידי צלאח א-דין במאה ה-12 החלו המוסלמים לקיים פולחן במקום בהאמינם בתחייתו של ישו ועלייתו לשמים. המוסלמים שלטו במקום ובהמשך המבנה כוסה בכיפה והמרווח בין העמודים נאטם על ידי קירות וכך היא קיבלה את צורתה היום. בתוך הכנסייה-מסגד מראים אבן עם טביעת רגלו של ישו.
