The Amphibious transport ship USS Trenton (LPD 14) (forward) and the fleet oiler USS Merrimack (AO 179) (rear) cut through the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, July 17, 1996. Both ships are part of the carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73) Battle Group. The George Washington battle group will be returning to homeport, July 23rd after completing a scheduled six-month deployment to the Mediterranean, which included sustained operations in support of the NATO-led peacekeeping in Bosnia and UN sanctions against Iraq in the Arabian Gulf.
