Title |
934 Late Medieval spout, side view.jpg |
||
Description |
English: Cast copper alloy zoomorphic spout (length 65mm, height 49mm, thickness 15mm, weight 58.37g). The spout is in the form of a dog’s head, with a pipe protruding 8mm from the mouth. The dog has closed eyes, a moulded brow and muzzle and long rectangular ears. The spout is otherwise undecorated. The rear has a long sloping stem that would be soldered on to the rest of the vessel. This is a relatively simple example of a well-known 15th-century type; it would originally have been attached to a pedestal-base ewer (see Lewis 1987, fig. 8A). |
