Description

Looking NW from near foot of Floyd St. <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Coast_Guard" rel="nofollow">Coast Guard</a> <a href="http://coastguard.dodlive.mil/2017/08/the-inland-fleet-quiet-keepers-of-the-heartland/" rel="nofollow">buoy tender</a> <a href="http://coastguard.dodlive.mil/2012/12/coast-guard-cutter-chippewa-eeping-commerce-flowing/" rel="nofollow">"Chippewa"</a> (doc. # WLR 75404) with crane barge "CGB-76" nosed into bank. Towboat "Pere Marquette" (doc. # 571622) downbound at right.

Signs on <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Rogers_Clark_Memorial_Bridge" rel="nofollow">Clark Bridge</a> piers read: "Danger: Dam 3000 ft. ahead" and "Restricted: No pleasure or fishing craft below bridge".

<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Louisville_Falls_Fountain" rel="nofollow">Louisville Falls Fountain</a> (operational from 1988 to 1998) can be seen in left distance downstream from Clark Bridge. . The twin-screw towboat "Chippewa" (75 x 22 feet, Cat diesels, 660 hp) was built in 1965 by <a href="http://shipbuildinghistory.com/shipyards/small/maxon.htm" rel="nofollow">Maxon Construction Co.</a>, <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tell_City,_Indiana" rel="nofollow">Tell City, Indiana</a>. It is owned by the U.S. Coast Guard and serves as a river buoy tender maintaining <a href="https://www.boat-ed.com/tennessee/handbook/page/11/U.S.-Aids-to-Navigation-System-ATON/" rel="nofollow">navigational aids</a> (buoys, lights and daymarks) on the Ohio and Mississippi Rivers. At time of this photo (Oct. 1992), the "Chippewa" operated out of Owensboro, Kentucky, but more recently has had a home port near Buchanan, Tennessee, on the Tennessee River. . The twin-screw towboat "Pere Marquette" (110 x 34 feet, GM diesels, 3050 hp) was built in 1975 by <a href="http://shipbuildinghistory.com/shipyards/large/dravoboats.htm" rel="nofollow">Dravo</a> for Inland Oil and Transport Co. Originally named "Lady Frances," the boat did not enter service until 1978, when it was acquired by Marquette Transportation Co., Cassville, Wisconsin, and renamed "Pere Marquette." In 1988 the boat was sold to National Marine and at time of this photo (Oct. 1992) was leased to Capital Towing Corp., Houston, Texas. In 1998 the boat was sold to American Commercial Barge Line, Jeffersonville, Indiana, and in 2006 renamed <a href="http://www.towboatgallery.com/Joseph_M_Hamilton-0571622.php" rel="nofollow">"Joseph M.
