流水河川等に架設し、戦車を含む重車両を迅速に渡河させるため、橋節と呼ばれるユニットを連結して浮橋又は門橋（フェリー）として使用する。橋節、動力ボート、橋節・動力ボート運搬車、道路マット、道路マット敷設装置から構成されており、自走で架設地点に到着すると運搬車に積載していた橋節を水上に卸下・展開し、各橋節を連結して浮橋を架設又は門橋として運航する。施設器材隊などに装備されている。
