English: This visible loop of Investigative Area 90L was captured on January 16, 2023, between 13:01 and 19:11 UTC, which corresponds to 8:01 AM to 2:11 PM in Eastern Standard Time, by the Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI) instrument flying aboard NOAA's GOES 16 satellite. This is a closer look at the cyclone, which developed from a more expansive extratropical low off the United States east coast. The National Hurricane Center recognized this low, and had a 0% of developing into a (sub)tropical cyclone within 48 hours and five days. regardless, when this time this satellite loop from GOES-16 was taken, the cyclone looked like it was trying to succeed in becoming a subtropical cyclone, but it fell short of meeting the requirements due to being "embedded in a cold-air mass." Regardless of being subtropical or not, the storm was expected to bring high winds and rainy or even snowy conditions in parts of Atlantic Canada, and the New England states. The intensity of this Investigative Area by the end of this loop had winds of 65 miles per hour (105 km/h) (55 knots) and a minimum central pressure of 980 mbar (28.9 inHg) according to the Ocean Prediction Center. |
