Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Image of aircraft engineers and aircrew making final checks of a Royal Air Force (RAF) Airbus Voyager refuelling aircraft before an early morning sortie (a C-17 can be seen in the background).

The Voyager provides the RAF with Strategic Air Transport and Aeromedical capability.

In addition, Voyager is an extremely effective air-to-air refuelling asset, which is utilised to enable a variety of RAF aircraft to operate for extended periods. Voyager currently operates as part of Operation Shader, where it is plays a crucial role, enabling many coalition air force aircraft to extend their sorties when countering Daesh.

These air assets are part of 906 Expeditionary Air Wing RAF (906 EAW) (itself part of 83 Expeditionary Air Group RAF) which provides the United Kindom's air mobility hub in the Middle East, and is a critical link in the UK's strategic air-bridge to and from the region. The Wing enables operations by C-17A Globemaster III, C-130J Hercules, and Voyager aircraft. The Wing also provides base support for Tornado GR4 and Typhoon FGR4 aircraft during exercises with the UK's partner countries in the Middle East.
