Original Image Name: Piciwiki_israel_90624_20220922_110452.jpg Notes: במלחמת העצמאות היה המנזר לזירת קרבות, ובו התחולל אחד הקרבות הקשים ביותר של המלחמה, במסגרת מבצע יבוסי. ב1949, הוכרז רוב השטח שהקיף את המנזר כנכס נפקדים, מאחר שהיה בבעלות ערבים תושבי קטמון שברחו בזמן המלחמה. מאות הדונמים בגבעה עליה ממוקם המנזר היו נטועים עצי זית, תאנה ואורנים עתיקים ועברו לחזקת רשות הפיתוח. חלק מהשטח הוקצה לטובת הקמת חוות הנוער הציוני, שנחנכה ב-23 בינואר 1950. חלקים אחרים הוקצו לטובת הקמת שיכונים לעולים חדשים.ב1954, עבר השטח מרשות הפיתוח לבעלות עיריית ירושלים.(ויקיפדיה)
