English: Looking NNW from ramp connecting southbound I-71 to westbound I-64, overlooking River Road just west of Adams St.
Left of center, storage tanks belonging to Shell Oil terminal, 1301 River Road, which is just upriver from Riverway, behind Towhead Island. [The 1987 Louisville City Directory lists 1301 River Road as "Shell Oil (Yards)," while the 1982 Directory lists that address as "American Oil Co. (Yards)."] Right of center, Stop Lite Liquors (with Old Milwaukee and Coors signs), which at time of this photo was located on north side of River Road where River Road, Fulton St. and Adams St. all converged. (It has since moved to the south side of River Road to make way for Waterfront Park.) Also at right of center, beyond the Coors sign, is a mostly-obscured brick building with triangular skylights. I don't know who was using it in 1988 (maybe Shell Oil), but as of 2013, that building is home to the Louisville Rowing Club, 1501 Fulton St. (Fulton St. no longer exists, but it ran parallel to and north of River Road between Adams St. and Beargrass Creek, more or less along the same line as the present-day (2013) bike/pedestrian path south of the RiverPark Place Marina). At right, a remnant of Adams St., which was cut off from the river by the construction of I-64 and I-71. In right distance, obscured by trees, is a low brick building on Fulton St. which I think housed offices of the Shell Oil terminal. Billboard advertises Wild Turkey bourbon. . Ohio River mile 603.
