Description
English: Looking ESE from K&I Bridge.

Towboat "Dennis Newman" (doc. # 281388) alongside lower guidewall of 1200-foot lock at McAlpine while waiting to enter 600-foot lock. Another tow can be seen departing the 600-foot lock, downbound. Ohio River mile 607. Louisville, Kentucky. Oct. 1987. File # 87j161.

Originally named "Albert F. Holden", the towboat was built by Dravo Corp. in 1960 and operated by Island Creek Fuel and Transportation Co., Huntington, W. Va. In 1963, the boat was sold to American Commercial Barge Line, Jeffersonville, Ind., and renamed "Dennis Newman" in 1972. In 1994, the boat was sold to Waxler Towing Co., Memphis, Tenn., and renamed "Sherman A. Waxler". The boat's documentation expired in 2008.
