Description

Looking WNW from 27th St. at McAlpine Locks. Towboat "Brimstone" (doc. # 277557), with second cut of tow, in 600-foot lock before locking down. Since completion of the first 1200-foot lock in 1961, the 600-foot lock (completed 1921) was normally used only when the 1200-foot lock was closed for maintenance or repair. Around late 2000, the 600-foot lock was closed for good and replaced by a second 1200-foot lock completed in 2009. K&I Bridge in left distance. Ohio River mile 607. Louisville, Kentucky. Oct. 1987. File # 87j074. . 35 mm Kodachrome slide. scanned with Plustek OpticFilm 7600i and Silverfast 8.
