English: 80-G-700005: Battle of the Atlantic. U-233 (German Type XB Submarine) is rammed by USS Thomas (DE 102), 5 July 1944 in the North Atlantic. Photographed from Thomas as she struck the submarine amidships. Note mine shuts on U-233’s foredeck, a feature of the type of XB U-Boats. Official U.S. Navy Photograph, now in the collections of the National Archives. (2017/02/14).
