Summary

[edit]
Description
English: 8/8a Spring Gardens, Barn Street From the website of The Georgian Society: Spring Gardens is a terrace of seven two-storey battlemented houses, unusual as a whole but especially notable for Nos 8 and 8a. Constructed around 1839 for the solicitor William Rees by the great improver of Haverfordwest William Owen, this pair is striking for its ornate and theatrical wisteria-clad wrought iron verandah. The pair, forming effectively one house, is now empty and badly dilapidated. A repairs notice was served on the then owner in the mid-1990s but the house was sold on to an overseas buyer who oversaw vandalism of the interior and the removal of fittings. Eventually the house passed into the hands of a local owner, none of whose various schemes of repair has yet materialised.
