Description |
English: Fragment of cast lead alloy pilgrims ampulla. Approximately one third of the bowl present, moulded with a scallop design on one side.
The scallop shell was initially the symbol of the apostle Saint James the Greater. Due to the large number of pilgrims travelling to Compostela in the 11th century, the scallop became a common symbol on pilgrim souvenirs for all saints. |
