Summary

[edit]
Description
English: The main reason for us to visit Wolsztyn was to see steam locomotive shed in Wolsztyn. Wolsztyn is the last place in Europe where train enthusiasts can see mainline steam locomotives operating daily pulling both freight and passenger trains. Near the station a simple but large open-air museum is set up, consisting of a steam locomotive shed / depot; turntable; and a wide collection of working, rare, mainline Polish steam locomotives.

Wolsztyn (formerly known as Wollstein) is little town dating from the middle ages. Once it was well-known for woollen cloth production. It is situated amidst lakes and on the River Obra and Dojca. After a great fire in 1810 Wolsztyn had to be practically built anew.

You can find a 18th century Baroque church, a Classicist 19th century palace and an open air moseum (Skansen), as well as a recreation and water sports centre on Lake Wolsztyn.
