Title |
751 Bronze Age axe balde fragment.jpg |
||
Description |
English: Cast copper alloy axe blade fragment, length 36mm, width 9mm, thickness 4mm, weight 4.22g. The forward edge is convex with a low angled curve, the rear edge is broken along its length. This is the forward edge of a Bronze Age axe, the breakage pattern along the rear suggest that this may have originally been the cutting edge of a Late Bronze Age socketed axe. Because the styles of the Early and Middle Bronze Ages, have a flange on either side of the blade, it is highly unlikely that any of these would break in a similar manner as this example. Therefore, a Late Bronze Age date is the most likely. The overall condition of the artefact is poor, corrosion has removed the whole of the original surface leaving a light green pitted surface. The break is old. |
