Title
7226F4, Post Medieval Shoe stud, TREASURE
Description
English: Silver plano-convex stud with an integrally cast shank (3.2 dia x 3.0 long) set asymmetrically on its flat back. The shank has been cut leaving two facets and a fracture. On the face of the stud is a button like motif consisting of a central pellet surrounded by a ring of conjoined V bars which in turn is surrounded by a band of angled C elements forming a cabled pattern. The best interpretation of this object is that it formed part of a late seventeenth/early eighteenth century two piece shoe or breeches buckle (cf a buckle from Witham Essex, Treasure Report 2005-6, T504) however the early dating suggested for this object seems unlikely and it is better dated to after the Restoration.
