Description
Deutsch: Die sogenannte „700-jährige Eiche“ beim Forsthof Grüner Jäger östlich von Stapel im Amt Neuhaus (Landkreis Lüneburg) gilt als "dickste" Eiche in Niedersachsen, was den Stammumfang betrifft. Ihr Alter soll allerdings eher um 500 Jahre liegen. Beim Sturm "Xavier" am 5. Oktober 2017 wurde die Baumkrone schwer beschädigt. Von Westen aus betrachtet sieht die Silhouette noch einigermaßen intakt aus, von allen anderen Seiten jedoch sieht der Baum seitdem stark beeinträchtigt/ruiniert aus. Zwei der drei stärksten stammbasierten Äste, die die Krone wesentlich geprägt hatten, sind abgebrochen. Und man muss wohl auch befürchten, dass der hohle, nun von unten und von oben angerissene Stamm in absehbarer Zeit auseinanderbricht, wenn man sich den aktuellen Zustand anschaut. English: So called "700-year-Oak" near the village Stapel (Amt Neuhaus, district Lüneburg, northern Germany) is supposed to be the "fatest" oak in Lower Saxony. The true age might be more than 500 years. In a storm on 5 October 2017, the treetop was badly damaged. Viewed from the west, the habitus still looks reasonably intact, but from all other sides the tree looks severely damaged or ruined ever since. Two of three main branches are broken off. Moreover, it is possible that the hollow trunk will break up in the foreseeable future, if you look at the current state. View from the north.
