Accession: 70-733-M Photograph.,Colorized, LCDR. John A. Bole. 10' H x 8" W LCDR Bole was the Commanding Officer for the USS AMBERJACK SS-219. The AMBERJACK was commissioned on 19 June 1942. She was reported as presumed lost on 22 March 1943 while covering the traffic routes from Raboul and Buka to Shortland Island . No conclusive explanation was ever found as to the cause of her loss. LCDR Bole was awarded the Navy Cross for outstanding perfomance as her Commander. Collection of Curator Branch; Naval History and Heritage Command |
