Description

66951 working 4O18 Lawley Street FLT to Southampton MCT failed on the down Reading line outside of Basingstoke station with a seized traction motor at about 07:20.

66511 was later summoned from Southampton MCT as 1Z99 to work 4O18 forward from Basingstoke.

Due to the seized traction motor on 66951, it was taken off 4O18 and went into the old platform 6 road at Basingstoke to prevent further damage to the faulty traction motor.

Later in the morning, Freightliner fitters arrived and were making good progress with an on-site temporary repair for it to move under it's own power to Southampton MCT Depot for further maintenance to be carried out.

It's a rare sight for a locomotive to be stabled here, the last few times being 66720 in August 2017 and 70816 in October 2022.
