To comply with gas emission regulations limestone (CaCO3) delivered to the power station (by other trains) is used to remove sulfur dioxide (SO2) from the flue gasses (desulfurisation), by converting it into gypsum (CaSO4·2H2O). The waste product (gypsum) is then delivered by train to British Gypsum's Robertsbridge Works where it is used to manufacture plaster and plasterboard for Greater London and the South East of England. 66723 was built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division, London, Ontario, Canada in 2006 and unloaded from a Heavy Lift Ship at Newport Docks. |
