| Description | GB Railfreight class 66/7 (JT42CWR) number 66710 built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division and named "Phil Packer BRIT" (www.flickr.com/photos/laurasia280/11784965365/) after an army officer who sustained serious injuries whilst on duty in Iraq in 2008 photographed hauling empty gypsum containers mounted on 18 flat wagons from Mountfield Sidings (Gbrf) East Sussex to West Burton Power station (Gbrf), Lincolnshire (4E19) on 9 December 2013. To comply with gas emission regulations limestone (CaCO3) delivered to the power station (by other trains) is used to remove sulfur dioxide (SO2) from the flue gasses, by converting it into gypsum (CaSO4·2H2O). The waste product (gypsum) is then delivered to British Gypsum's Robertsbridge Works by train where it is used to manufacture plaster and plasterboard. 66710 was built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division, London, Ontario, Canada in 2002 and unloaded from a heavy lift ship at Newport Docks around 22 June 2002 (www.flickr.com/photos/60854097@N06/7354331056/in/photolis...). |
