66183 WBAT TOWER COL 786C45CH09 0 ABERTHWPS N 7D A DB Schenker Rail UK's class 66 number 66183 EWS passes Pontypridd Junction working 6C45 hauling exEWS bogie coal hopper wagons loaded with anthracite (a variety of hard coal that has a high carbon content with few impurities so releases a large amount of energy per weight) from the Tower Colliery open cast mine to Aberthaw B Power Station on 9 April 2015. The grade II listed signal box (Rhondda Branch Junction signal box) closed in 1998 and now boarded up is a modified version of McKenzie and Holland's type 3 design built between the Taff Vale Railway main line to the right and the Rhondda Branch to the left in 1902 controlling 230 levers. 66183 was built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division, London, Ontario, Canada in 1999 and unloaded from the Heavy Lift Ship MV "Fairmast" at Newport Docks on 25 December 1999.
