Description

DB Schenker's class 66 (JT42CWR) number 66001 in Deutsche Bahn cherry red works 6V13 08:12 from Dollands Moor sidings to Margam Terminal Complex hauling empty IHA covered steel coil carrier wagons (Sfhimmns) on 1 February 2014. It was also photographed later on route by Neil Prior passing Cholsey (www.flickr.com/photos/96419058@N03/12267396204/in/faves-9...). Work on building 66001, the first class 66 to be built, began with its frames being laid on 18 May 1997. It was officially handed over to EWS on 23 March 1998 and unloaded from the Heavy Lift Ship MV "Fairload" at Immingham Docks on 18 April 1998 before undergoing testing at Toton depot and at the Engineering Research Centre at Derby. 66001 regularly works services on this line having been photographed previously on 15 January (www.flickr.com/photos/99279135@N05/11962123994/in/photoli...), 13 January (www.flickr.com/photos/99279135@N05/11926088243/in/photoli...), 11 January 2014 and 10 January 2014 (www.flickr.com/photos/99279135@N05/11868413393/in/photoli...).

The steel flow from South Wales to Maubeuge (France) and to Broekman (Holland) stopped running through the Channel tunnel at the end of November 2015. The flow to Maubeuge was cancelled as the cold mill which produced this material was mothballed as part of the Tata Steel strip downsizing programme. Instead Maubeuge is supplied from Tata Steels Limuiden plant (Holland). 2 grades of steel were also supplied by Tata Steel to Broekman Group to make oil drums. With one grade being sourced from elsewhere the remaining 700 tonnes per week of the second grade was not sufficient to run a block train.
