Title
65dc27
Description
English: Cast copper alloy head of a lock pin. Roman.

The pin itself appears to have been circular in section and made of iron, evident now from iron staining at the base of the head. The head is spindle shaped. Circular in plan. The base is flat. The opposite end is inset slightly with a circular depression in the centre.

A similar object can be seen in Crummy, N. 1983. Colchester Archaeological Report 2: The Roman small finds from excavations in Colchester 1971-9. Page 125. Fig 137. This example is larger with an integral rectangular copper alloy pin.
