Title
641A28. Medieval domed thimble
Description
English: Cast copper alloy domed sewing thimble with a flattened rim which varies in thickness. The indentations are hand-punched, circular and are arranged in a spiral around the wall of the thimble to the outer edges of the domed top, leaving the crown bare. The rim of the thimble is bare and separated from the indented area by two incised girth lines. The thimble is slightly squashed at the edge. There are several vertical tears at the base of the thimble. Similar to examples described in Holmes, Edwin F, 1991, "Sewing Thimbles", p1 - 3.
