To the left is Koch & Shankweiler, a major dry goods store, on the first story of the Hotel Allen. Note on the end porch post for the hotel balcony is a Bell Telephone sign. (It should be noted that most of the buildings on the north side of Hamilton from the Allen Hotel to Church Street stood and were used as retail stores until the mid/late 1960s). Hamilton Street is still unpaved. most buisnesses have an overhang porch to shield customers from rain along the concrete sidewalk. On the south side of the street includes the M. Leh and Breining and Bachman Building
