Description
English: c/n 820

Built 1926 Twenty seven FB-5s were built and amazingly three survive. This example was initially delivered to the US Navy and served with VF-1 aboard the USS Langley from January to September 1927. She was then transferred to VF-6B on the USS Saratoga, flying with them until joining San Diego based VF-3B in April 1928. In September 1928 she was returned to Boeing for modifications in preparation for service with the US Marine Corps and was finally issued to VF-6M in March 1930. After 18 months of modifications, she then served for only four months before being retired from service in July 1930 and becoming a ground instruction airframe. The Smithsonian Institute acquired her from Tucson based Allied Aviation during 1972 and she was restored by the US Marine Corps museum at Quantico, Virginia, between 1977 and 1978. She is seen on display in the Steven F. Udvar Hazy Center as part of the National Air and Space Museum. Washington Dulles International Airport, Chantilly, Virginia
