Title
521 knife pommel.jpg
Description
English: Knife pommel, rectangular shape with an oval cross-section. There is a shallow groove running down the centre on both sides, 6mm wide. The top edge is concave whilst the bottom is flat. There is a knop on either side 3mm from the top. The knops have a diamond shape cross-section. There is a slot in the base that runs from one side to the other and is 5mm deep, in the slot is the remains of the iron tang of the knife. The surface is heavily corroded resulting in a dark brown and very heavily pitted surface with some dark green patches in the recesses. These knife pommels have been found in context in London and are dated to the 16th century.
