Description

Vyborg, Karelian Isthmus, Russia

Karelian Isthmus was part of Finland before the WW2. After the war it was ceded to Soviet Union. These buildings are from the Finnish period and they are designed by Finnish architects. Some of them have been repaired, but some are in poor condition.

Torkkelinkadulle arkkitehti Uno Ullberg suunnitteli liike- ja pankkirakennuksen vuonna 1911, jonka harmaa graniittipintainen julkisivu komisti Torkkelinkadun näkymää. Rakennuksessa oli Kauppapankin, myöhemmin Helsingin Osakepankin Viipurin konttori. Pankin sisäänkäyntiä koristavat Felix Nylundin veistämät graniittiset naishahmot. Samalle tontille Torkkelin- ja Karjalankadun (ennen vuotta 1929 Aleksanterinkatu) kulmaan suunnitteli Ullberg Kiinteistö Oy Karjalan liike- ja asuinrakennuksen vuonna 1914.
