Title
47EE95a.jpg
Description
English: Medieval copper alloy strap end book clasp, 71mm long, 25mm wide and 10mm high. The object is made up of two sections, the first is a diamond shape 10mm high and 25mm wide. Thhis is decorated with a square 'flower' which has a series of incised lines in its centre. emerging from this is a decorative shaft, which splits and encloses one point of the diamond and then terminates in a suspension loop. The other part consists of a plate which has had acover, but is now lost. This plate was originally attached to the clasp and you can see the two iron rivets which would have held the clasp in place. it is very similar to one in Benets 'Artefacts' p. 225.
