English: A birthday cake awaits hundreds of Soldiers gathered in the early morning sunlight, Dec. 7, to pay tribute to the 91st Birthday of the 46th Engineer Combat Battalion (Heavy), also known as the "Steel Spike" Battalion. The 46th ECB (H), which currently serves with Multi-National Division – Baghdad's 926th Engineer Brigade, was initially designated as an Engineer Railway Maintenance-of-Way Battalion in 1918 at Camp Sheridan, Ala. The battalion is now based in Fort Polk, La., and its Company B is based in Fort Rucker, Ala. Soldiers, officers and special guests of the 46th ECB (H) assembled for the reverent, yet simple ceremony to reflect on the unit's long and proud history. |
