Description

This is an old used Mask from the Makonde ot Makua people of Southern Tanzania and Mozambique. It was collected in 2002, is supported with a stand and measures h 27 x w 24 x d 30cm It has a wonderful old worn polycrome patina and lots of evidence of wear and use. The Makonde have two main types of masks: helmet crests, known as lipiko, and face masks. The anthropomorphic face masks portray particular individuals or occasionally represent sickness.

This lipico mask apears to have a cleft palate. SOLD
