[edit]Description3 mothers.jpg |
English: Three Mothers Art Gallery is one of the hidden tourist attractions in the city of Imphal. Located at Thangapat Road, It is situated at a distance of a mere 4. 3 Km from Imphal, Manipur. It is a renowned museum housing a special and unique form of art.
Three Mothers Art Gallery houses a collection of Driftwood sculpture art. The entire gallery is located in a single shed-like room of 1000 square feet. There are no signboards to the gallery, so it is a little difficult to find, but once you reach the place, all things seem like a fair price. The gallery houses the artwork of Gurumayum Shyamsunder Sharma who comes from a great family of artists. His work involves carving sculptures out of wood. But unlike other sculpting artists, all his artwork is carved out of a single piece of wood-the root, while incorporating its natural shape into the design. This lesser-known gallery located in a small house in a little lane of Imphal houses driftwood designs of all sizes ranging from huge dragons to little idols. Most of the sculpture's designs are based on Manipuri mythological characters and Manipur's turbulent History and Culture. Other than that, some pieces have scenes from battles carved on solid wood. The gallery also consists of artwork of Indigenous wildlife of Manipur and mythological creatures having mixed body forms of humans and animals carved from the root from a single tree. Three Mothers Art Gallery is the epitome of the rich culture, heritage, tradition and history of the Manipur. Visitors need at least one hour to fully explore the gallery. The Three Mothers Art Gallery can be visited during timings 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM on all days of the week. The entry to the Gallery is free of any charge. |
