English: 330-PS-9189 (428-GX-USN 710277): Flagship of the U.S. Navy’s Seventh Fleet, USS Helena (CA 75), background, rescues 116 men, women, and children from the grounded Norwegian ship Hoi Wong. A small boat used to remove some of the stranded people is approaching the side of Helena. Later, when the water became to rough, the majority of the personnel had to be rescued Helena’s two helicopters. The Norwegian ship was proceeding from Swatwo in “Red” China to Singapore when it ran aground in the Parcel Islands, about 150 miles south of Hong Kong. Helena completed her rescue without a single mishap, 14 October 1958. (10/28/2014). |
