English: 330-PS-8016 (USN 691007): The annual extensive cargo carrying operation to resupply icebound military outposts and radar stations along the northern coasts of Alaska is nearing completion. One hundred and fourteen U.S. Navy ships, including icebreakers to lead the way through the perilous and seemingly impenetrable ice flows, carried more than 500,000 tons of supplies, equipment, and petroleum products to the barren beaches at the top of the continent above the Arctic Circle. The supplies will be used to replenish stocks and extend construction of distant early warning radar stations along the 5,000-mile northeastern rim of Alaska and Canada. The outposts are icebound most of the year. Led by Rear Admiral G. C. Toener, USN, Task Group Commander, the overall operation is under the Direction of Vice Admiral John M. Will, USN, Commander Military Transportation Service.
