Description
English: 330-PS-7418 (USN 709490): Two veterans who have served with the WAVES since inception, in 1942, display their gold stripes. Two WAVE “Boots” look on. Shown, left to right: Seaman Apprentice Laura Quaid; Chief Yeoman Leo; Seaman Apprentice Virginia Scott; and Chief Storekeeper Margaret Gay. Master Caption: WAVES Observe 13th Anniversary: Preparatory to their Thirteenth Anniversary, July 30, WAVE Recruits at the Naval Training Center, Bainbridge, Maryland, pass in review. These young women will take their places with sailors in important technical and clerical duty assignments both at home and abroad. At that time, there were approximately 7,000 WAVES on active duty in the U.S. Navy. Photograph released July 25, 1955. (3/4/2015).
