Description
English: 330-PS-7261 (USN 709425): New Navy Jet Trainer To Fly Off Carriers. The Lockheed T2V-1, foreground, is the first jet trainer designed to operate with U.S. Navy aircraft carriers. Introducing numerous new safety and performance features, the sea going T2V-1 which flies its student-instructor crew, performs all the maneuvers of a standard Navy fighter. Most novel of its safety features is the new “Boundary Layer Control” system, wherein compressed air from the engine is ducted into the wing and squirted through the holes directed at flaps and airflows, this causes the normal airflow to hug the control surfaces and gives the plane greater lift. Photograph released April 11, 1955. (3/4/2015).
