Description 330-PSA-211-64 (USN 711474): Operation Sea Orbit (Nuclear Task Force One) Map of Globe Circumnavigation. Nuclear Task Force One consisted of: USS Enterprise (CVAN 65); USS Long Beach (CLGN 9), and USS Bainbridge (DLGN 25), which traveled 34,732 statute miles without refueling or taking on supplies for the more than 6,000 men aboard. The trip commenced on July 31, 1964 when the ships completed operations in the Mediterranean and sailed past Gibraltar. Task Force One, Commanded by Rear Admiral Bernard M. Strean, was visited by officials of 12 countries. Majority of the visits were underway calls in which planes from the Enterprise flew inland to pick up officials for an inspection of Task Force One and an air power demonstration. In-port calls, where one or more of the ships dropped anchor, were made at Karachi, Pakistan, August 20-22; Fremantle, Australia, August 31-September 2; Melbourne, Australia, September 3-5; Sydney, Australia, September 4-7; Wellington, New Zealand, September 8-9; and Rio De Janerio, Brazil, September 23-25. Underway visits were conducted with officials flown from Rabat, Morocco, July 31; Dakar, Senegal, August 3; Monrovia, Liberia and Freetown, Sierra Leone, August 4; Abidjan, Ivory Coast, August 5; Cape Town, Union of South Africa, August 10; Nairobi, Kenya, August 15; Montevideo, Uruguay and Buenos Aries, Argentina, September 21; Sao Paulo, Brazil, September 23; and Recife, Brazil, September 28.
