Summary

[edit]
Description 330-PS-1116 (USN 705110): New Navy Technique for Projecting Charts. Printer Third Class Jack Dempsey, Welfare Division, Bureau of Naval Personnel, demonstrates a specially designed overhead projector developed by the training aids section of the Bureau of Naval Personnel. It is used for projecting on large screens, line drawings and charts so that they may be viewed by entire audiences. By using an opaque projector and readily obtainable art supplies and paper, a technique was developed whereby an instructor could rapidly trace an enlarged image to produce a chart. Dry duplicating process, such as are standard in most business houses, make it possible to produce rapidly as many copies of the chart as desired. By use of the dry reproducing process and sensitive reflex auto-positive paper or film, an identical copy of an illustration can be made and printed on transparent foil. The foil is then mounted and may be used, with the specifically designed overhead projector, to project an enlarged image of the chart. Local preparation of training has inherent advantages in the improvement of Navy instruction. The creative abilities of the individual instructor are brought out. He can develop as many aids as required to overcome teaching difficulties. In developing such aids, instructors better prepare themselves for classroom presentations. The novelty of presentation captures and increases the interest of the student. It is economical, rapid, and requires but a small storage space. Photograph released February 16, 1951. (6/30/2015).
