3085 Roman Hod Hill brooch
Description
English: Cast copper alloy Hod Hill brooch length 40mm, width 12mm, thickness 10mm, weight 3.34g. The head is formed from a rolled sheet tube which would have held the hinge, there is a rearward facing central slot for the pin, which is now missing. The main body of the bow is formed by two moulded squares with are enclosed by a transverse ridge above and below, each squares is incised with a cross that has a pellet above and below. Below this the rest of the leg is narrowed with the catch plate on the reverse. This artefact was originally tinned. Date c.43-70 AD.
