Summary

[edit]
Description
English: "Second Avenue looking N. Seattle, Wash. From the bend just south of Yesler, and actually the direction is NNW.

When I bought this online, it was described as circa 1911. Let's test that through clocks and other visible artifacts. (Open image page on Flickr and hover for notes)

On the right is the clock of Stacy Shown. It's now in Mukilteo. It was installed in front of the Smith Tower in 1917, and moved a few storefronts to this spot in 1921.

On the left is the clock of Fogel & Bailey on 2nd and James in the Hotel Seattle. It was installed here in 1920. They went out of business in 1924. I'm not positive when their clock was removed, but I assume it was moved by the end of 1924. A new one was installed at this address in 1930.

There is a sliver of a billboard up ahead for Henry Broderick, saying that he "controls" or leases 500 or 550 storefronts in Seattle. MOHAI has a photo dated "circa 1925" which says he controls 850.

Just left of the Fogel clock is a sign for Blanchard's Confectionery. I haven't checked the Polk guide, but they ran ads in the newspaper from 1919 to 1923.

So, some time from 1921 to 1924. Let's go on the early end because of the Broderick sign and candy shop. 1922.
