Title
2 coins of Licinius as junior caesar, cleaned for ID. Loose scatter coins "from the finder's bucket".
Description
English: POOLE, CHESHIRE

5 AE radiates and 1496 nummi + pottery to AD 335. Treasure case 2016T325

Apart from five debased period of radiates of the previous century, the nummi range from AD 313-35, but as is often observed with hoards of this period, coinage prior to the reform of 318 is residual. The latest member of the imperial college present is represented by the coins of Constans, who from AD 333 was the last of Constantine the Great's sons to be recognised on the coinage. The hoard thus ends before the introduction of the 'GLORIA EXERCITVS' reverse type of two soldiers with a single standard between them. 40% of the hoard is made up of issues of AD 330-5 (GLORIA EXERCITVS with two standards and the associated 'Constantinian commemoratives' celebrating the twin capitals of Rome and Constantinople).
