Description

After years of saying "I'll will pay a visit to the Isle of Man one day", late July 2017 saw me finally head off to visit the island for a three night stay. Taking the train and Isle of Man Steam Packet ferry via Heysham for the outward journey took up most of the first day. Equipped with a 3 day "Go Explorer" smart card for £32, this proved to be good value to cover all public transport on the island including the privately run Groudle Glen and Laxey Mines railways.

As all the railways were running on the Saturday, Friday 28th was mainly spent exploring the island by by bus to visit some parts of the island which no longer have a rail service such as Peel. Ending up in Ramsey late afternoon I returned back to Douglas via the Manx Electric Railway for the first of two southbound runs.

Seen here is the oldest of the cars dating back to 1893 - no.1 was being used for a private hire seen before departure from Ramsey bound for Derby Castle (Douglas).
