Historic cottage in Liverpool, New South Wales

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: 27 Speed Street in Liverpool, New South Wales is a heritage-listed house. This site consists of a single-storey weatherboard cottage. The cottage has a symmetrical front elevation featuring a framed verandah with ornamental detailing. The timber brackets shows a distinct "Art Nouveau" influence. The skillion verandah roof has a slightly convex curved shape. The main roof is gabled and there is one brickfaced chimney.

The site has undergone various alterations throughout its life span. Since 1992 a wooden finial on the southern gable has since been removed. The setting of the cottage has also been considerably altered since 1992. To the west a similar workingman's cottage (No. 29) has been redeveloped. To the east another cottage at No 25 Speed Street was demolished as part of a Development Application (DA 859/04) granted by Liverpool City Council on May 10 2004. The three cottages had formed the "Speed Street Cottage Group". Just south of the property (across the road), three other workingman's cottages were located (No.s 36, 38 & 40). They were purchased in September 2001 and later demolished.
