Summary
[edit]Description27F, Khotachiwadi - Dandekar House (3864411673).jpg |
English: This house belongs to Air Commodore Meghashyam Dandekar. Over 125 years old, the house was bought by Commodore Dandekar’s grandfather, Madhavrao Dandekar along with two other houses in the area. In the deadly plague during the last years of 19th century, almost the entire Dandekar family was wiped out. The only two survivors were Meghashyam Dandekar’s father Sadanand Dandekar, who was barely two years old at that time, and his stepmother. Sadanand married Vatsala in 1919. The couple had five children; Meghashyam, Dattaram, Nalini, Hema and Chandrasen. Meghashyam married Lalita in 1950. The couple had three children, Abhay, Vivek and Latika. However, as Meghashyam was in the Air Force, the family was away from 1965 to 1977. Among his childhood memories, Commodore Dandekar remembers the swing in the drawing room, which made his house the center of attraction for the neighbourhoods children. |
