English: This house, built by the Portuguese, is over 100 years old. It is one of the five houses still owned by the church in Khotachiwadi. When people died in those days, they left the houses to the church for their soul.

The Mesquita Families originally lived in the bungalows number 44, when the eldest brother, Joe, married Ester, they shifted here and brought up there children, Ashley – captain on a ship – Marie and Corinne. Marie Mesquita still lives here. When Corinne married Aubrey D’Lima they shifted to her husband house, but now she still come to the 27D Khotachiwadi. Her son and his family also live here. Corinne has four more daughters but only one – Celeste Baptista – still lives in Khotachiwadi, at the number 27.
When she remains her childhood Corinne always describes Khotachiwadi and Girgaum as a peaceful place with a few cars and no high-rise building. She remembers the time there was no buses but trams. For her everything has change in the 70’s, when Bombay get commercialized. Now even the beach is always crowded.

She remembers with a bit of nostalgia how peoples enjoyed their simple life, just staying and playing in the house with all the children of the neighbourhood.
