| Description |
Ruse is the most important of the two passenger border crossings between Bulgaria and Romania. For many years it saw trains a day one day and one overnight in each direction between Sofia and București often with through coaches from further afield such as İstanbul. However passenger numbers have severely fallen and for Autumn 2018 at least, the passenger train service over the border was reduced to one train a day formed of CFR 2-car class 96 railcar. Seen here at Ruse on 27 October 2018, set 962114/2514 will form train IR1094, 16:10 Ruse to București Nord. The train is booked to layover there for 35 minutes and provides connections in both directions to Sofia and Varna. A somewhat shambolic passport checking system takes place on the platform with passengers having their documents taken away for up to 15 minutes to be scanned in an office on another part of the station. Romanian officials carry out checks at the first station over the border, Giurgiu Nord. |
