2650 Medieval copper alloy ewer spout |
||
Description |
English: Medieval copper alloy ewer spout, dating to the 15th century length 72mm, width 54mm, thickness 18mm, weight 70g. It was cast separately from the rest of the vessel and soldered on via a long sloping seam. The spout quickly tapers to become tubular with a moulded dogs head decoration on the spout terminal. The dog has upright rectangular slightly fluted ears, its snout and eyes are represented by a concave depression with a circular spout protruding from its open mouth. This is a simple example of a well-known 15th century type; it would originally have been attached to a pedestal-base ewer |
