Title
2429 double oval buckle.JPG
Description
English: An incomplete cast copper alloy double oval buckle frame, dating to the Medieval period between AD 1350 – 1600 (length: 25mm; width: 23.5mm; thickness: 2.5mm; weight: 2.67g).

Only one loop remains of this D-shaped buckle frame, which has a pointed protrusion along the middle of the outside edge. The central bar protrudes outwards at either end of the width of the frame. Corroded knobs are all that remains of the opposing loop. The buckle frame is undecorated and flat on the reverse side. The artefact is in a worn but fair condition with a green/ brown patchy patina.

A similar buckle is illustrated in Egan, G & Pritchard, F, 2002, Medieval Finds from Excavations in London: 3: Dress Accessories c 1150 – c 1450’, page 88 & plate 54, ref no 386.
